Origins

Part of me doubted if I was ever going to release a brand. Today, after spending about 5 years printing t-shirts, dyeing fabrics, sewing labels and patches, developing serygraphy screens as a hobby, the time has come where I think I can launch something that I can be proud of.

Maltaine was born back in 2018, in my third year of college, when one of my friends started screen printing and motivated me to do it. I've allways loved fashion and streetwear, so maybe that gave me the motivation to start making my own clothes.

I started like most people who print clothing, taking fabric cuts and testing what designs I could allow myself to make with a serigraphy screen. It's fun to see now the whole process and the designs I did before, and see that in the end, many of the influences are still the same as today.

After a couple of years of making my sweatshirts and t-shirts, my friends began to ask me for clothes made with my the designs that they liked. I've always took advantage of when it was someone's nearby birthday to give away t-shirts and samples of clothes that I had in my wardrobe as a leftover. So maybe here started something.

Early works & progress

Where I really saw myself starting to see the idea of the collection was when I made a collage of Malcolm Mclaren and Vivienne Westwood about 3 years ago. I loved that impression and I think it will come back one day. In fact, I began to become more interested in the types of cotton, the patterns, details and I was already interested in something a little serious.

Taking advantage of the fact that my mother is a seamstress, I have been able to learn from her about sewing and fashion in general. Today, in fact, she helps me by sewing patches and lines on the t-shirts and sweatshirts in the collection, since we have at home some of the machines and mannequins that she had in her fashion workshop a few years ago. Without her, this collection would probably never have come out, or I would have it harder for making this thing happening.
To all this, I have been working as a product designer in different places, I am not a fashion designer. I consider myself a lucky person, I have had great jobs, but the one that really marked me was the last one I had in Madrid and the reason for publishing this website/article/collection.

Conclusion

Finally, after returning to Barcelona, I have had the confidence to put myself into it 100%. Really, doing something well done is not just making clothes, there are many things that really take a lot of time and money to make everything presentable.

Luckily I'm a curious person and I've saved up for this, and I'm interested in knowing everything, whether it's web design, art co-direction of shootings, community management and legal issues of how to do this well.
